Winterlight XXIX - January 5, 2005

Have just returned from Winterlight XXIX at Kanuga Conference Center over the holiday break. What an amazing time of creativity and wonder! While exploring the theme of "I am...", more than 200 high school participants from across the country wrote, drew, painted, and crafted self-expressive words and images to impart to the community who they really are. It is always amazing to see the faith and depth that these young people possess. The last day, with a 10'x10' cube created out of PVC, and covered with black plastic cut out and taped with tissue paper to simulate stained glass, was truly amazing and unique, and resoundly reinforced the idea that through all that we are and do, we are the light of the world. Another highlight was watching groups of kids, from inner city DC to suburban Florida, come together to write songs on faith, life and stereotypes. It definately gives me hope for our world. Thanks to all those who worked so hard to bring together a great week, and all the youth and adult musicians who lifted a joyous sound, it was great to work with you all!
