Sam Hensley: Music
Stand by Me, Lord
(Sam Hensley)
African-American Spirtual
I learned this version of this African-American spiritual from Rick Lord, rector of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Vienna, VA, at their parish retreat at Shrinemont conference center in 2006. I love the song because of the simplicity of it, and it's easily taught and easily picked up by groups. The album version takes a slightly more alt-country feel to it, because deep down inside, I love crunchy electric guitars, and if I had the chance to join Wilco or Son Volt or the like, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Stand by me, Lord, while I run this race
Stand by me, Lord, while I run this race
Stand by me, Lord, while I run this race
'cause I don't want to run this race in vain
Guide my feet...
Give me hope...
Give me peace...
